Something’s gotta give in this city bro. Too many Black youth in Knoxville are dying or succumbing to the violent systems being implemented in our communities https://twitter.com/cole_sull/status/1361868810630934528
Almost half the Black pop. in this city lives under the poverty line. Every Black neighborhood is in a food desert. Meanwhile UTK’s president gets to build a $65 million stadium on the East side for a minor league baseball team at the expense of Black families being displaced.
When I was at Fulton, KCS forced us to drop the theater program, merge our TV program w/ radio, and tried to take Project GRAD’s funding away. Took our opportunities every chance they got vs. the schools out west then wondered why we was struggling.
I’m fed up. And what’s gonna piss me off more is that I guarantee none of the issues I just addressed will be brought up when the Mayor holds this meeting about the violence going on in our communities. Black folks will be blamed for it and we will repeat this cycle in 2 months.
Need all the Black folks in Knoxville esp the Black youth to realize that we can’t keep waiting for institutions to save us. We gotta link up and fend for ourselves. The real war ain’t gang related, it’s us vs. this white supremacist capitalist system that’s dominant in the city
As long as we keep crying “Stop the violence!” without asking “Why is the violence here in the first place?”, we’ll be attending candlelight vigils every two weeks for the rest of our lives. We can do better. We gotta organize
Side note we tryna get something going this weekend, we want everyone who can be involved to be involved so just stay tuned on that
