How I fell in love with a marathon. @VoetvanAfrika1 is in deed the toughest race with the warmest heart.

So I’m planning to run my first Marathon on the same day Kipchoge will attempt the sub 2 and the crazy in me picks the toughest one I could find
.
@TlhaseM says this thing sounds hilly nje yena akazi and he’s right. There’s a small mountain (NOT A HILL) see the route profile

Nonetheless I’m not backing down. Registration done, accommodation booked and by now I’ve managed to convince 3 other crazies to join me. 1 will run the marathon with me and the other 2 will run the half marathon.

Others start suffering from FOMO and they join in especially after I told them that @runningmann100 will also be there. Now more people are going. So backing out for me.

Registration and number collection happens. Issa vibe and I’m like yeah. This is gonna be fun (When has running a marathon ever been fun
)

4am wake up call shower and quick snack. Then we’re loaded at the back of the truck like cows going to the slaughter (well I was going to get slaughtered by the race). The race starts about 8km away from town in some dodgy road in the middle of nowhere.
About 3km into the race, the Half Marathon guys come pass in their truck and my teammates shout my name and cheer on. We later cross their starting point
Now it’s real. We reach the mountain (no running happens here unless you’re an elite runner) everyone walks and it’s normal very normal to walk here.
At 30km, now we’re facing the wind but the Virgin Marathon Runner is holding on strong. I’ve ran 30km in preparation so the legs can handle this. We shall see what happens at 36km
All goes well, we reach the stadium (one thing I hate about stadium finishes, you must run a lap before crossing the mats and now you can’t walk coz people are looking at you
) As you can see, we’ve to up the pace coz all
are on us.

Then we all met @runningmann100 (Such a nice guy)
The crazy in me, ran 15km the next day as a recovery
I must’ve annoyed @TlhaseM with my Marathon story coz he ran up Luis Fourie Spa Hill like it was flat, that time my legs are heavy

This is just one of those marathons that'll hold a very dear place for as long as I run......
