zionists use european indigeniety rules based in biblical narratives and blood quantum and expect that to somehow supersede the local indigenous Palestinian population. let’s not forget - racial superiority over ‘levantines’ was a critical part of the establishment of Israel.
"we do not want the israelis to become arabs. it is incumbent upon us to struggle against the spirit of the levant, which corrupt individuals and societies." - ben gurion, to justify the theft of arab land and jewish children from their families.
no nations on this planet are pure-blooded. europeans practicing race science tried to prove a common origin for all ‘races’ (ethnic groups) and that’s exactly what zionists are doing when they claim indigeniety to the levant specifically because of jewish identity.
no one’s ancestors were some closed-off, unchanging homogeneous group that had exclusive ownership over a territory that somehow conveniently corresponds to modern day borders. belonging is beyond genetic makeup or a re-visitation of a cultural past that may or may not apply.
appropriating indigenous status opens up a conversation to rectify injustices of colonialism. bringing up indigeniety outside of colonial situations is usually a tool of the right - and that's why we need to do a better job of articulating solidarity with indigenous movements.
we need to a better job of understanding belongings in a way that doesn't rely on blood and soil language. otherwise, we undermine these movements by making it easy to appropriate them, or by opening them up to attacks based on the inconsistency of such genealogical arguments.
