TONIGHT 1/2: A local landlord says she has been terrorized by an unstable tenant for the last 8 months. He violated a restraining order & showed up outside her bedroom window w/ a butcher knife, & last week, he came through her ceiling with a knife & threw a hammer at her. @FOXLA
The landlord tells me before this latest incident, the Section 8 tenant had been arrested multiple times, but was always almost immediately released from custody. She says the system almost got her killed, and she has been unable to evict him. What happened?
Story 10pm @FOXLA
For those wondering about the ceiling incident, he had been pounding on her walls (they live next door to eachother) she pounded back, he got up into their shared attic space, used a hammer to blast through the ceiling, ceiling fell on her, then he dropped down & threw hammer.
The tenant is now in custody & charged with multiple felonies, but the landlord says this could have been prevented months ago, and she says officers told her he was often released from custody before they even finished filing the paperwork during his previous arrests.
And no, the previous releases were not George Gascon’s fault. These previous cases were handled by the L.A. City Attorney’s Office, not the DA’s office. Gascon’s office is now handing the criminal case involving the ceiling/hammer incident. Suspect is in jail on $100k bail.
