PSA: solar and wind power actually help to prevent rolling blackouts by feeding excess energy back into the grid, thereby reducing reliance on the grid.
This points to another very basic fact about renewable energy systems, which is that 99.9% of the time they're what's known as "grid tied." So, if the power is out, it's not the fault of the solar & wind, for goodness' sake. It means the conventional power grid is out.
When most Texas lawmakers talk about renewable energy, I can never tell if the level of wrongness they put on display is ignorance or disinformation, but regardless...
This seems like a good time to remind everyone that quintessential Texan and Dallas star Larry Hagman was a massive solar energy fan & evangelist. He was partial to saying "Shine baby, shine!" Did a *lot* to promote renewables in the U.S. https://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/14/business/media/14adco.html
And that a small conservative town in Texas, Georgetown, did a _lot_ to help put renewables on the map in this country. (The challenges Georgetown encountered have been ROI-related, not supply related.) https://www.sierraclub.org/texas/blog/2020/02/lessons-georgetown-and-future-renewable-energy-texas
The intermittency of renewables is a shameful myth pushed by fossil fuel-funded good ol' boys like Cornyn and Abbott. Don't believe it.
Note: if you post disinfo about renewable energy in my replies I will assume you're a paid troll and block you immediately.
