Investing in sports cards is like investing in the stock market. Make sure your portfolio is diverse, look long term, don't chase hot trends(hi gamestop) and stick to sports you know. A Thread /1
First make sure you get some Blue Chippers. These are early cards of great players that are scarce in the best condition possible. Mantle, Ruth, Wilt , Jordan, Gretzky will never go down in the long term thats why they are blue chippers. /2
Go prospecting. Sprinkle in some players that are highly scouted that you would want for a keeper fantasy league and have big upside. 9/10 of these won't pan out but if 1 hits, you cover the loses from the other 9. Prospecting got me a Mike Trout RC which paid off all busts. /3
Look for undervalued cards or niches. These are tough to find but if you really do your homework they are out there. Noone was touching wrestling cards but I knew nostalgia is big and ppl would want to recapture that. I invested big in them and they exploded /4
Based on your risk tolerance decide what works for you. If you are conservative focus on the blue chippers. If you are a maverick go heavy on prospecting and niches. Only put in money you are willing to lose and have fun!
