San Francisco unveiled its third high-volume vaccination site on Tuesday in the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood. The site, located at the SF Market at 901 Rankin Street, will initially serve individuals 65+ and healthcare workers until SF enters Phase 1b on Feb. 24. (1/8)
Mayor London Breed, Director of Health Dr. Grant Colfax and District 10 Supervisor Shamann Walton toured the site—which is committed to equitably distributing the vaccine—before hosting a press conference outside the building. (2/8) @LondonBreed @shamannwalton @GColfax
"This site is 100% about equity and making sure the community affected by the virus has the same level of access that we do throughout the rest of the city,” said Walton. "This is a step to let everyone know that we are concerned about all of our communities in SF.” (3/8)
According to Mayor Breed, the 82,000-square foot site can distribute 200 vaccinations daily, although appointments will be by invitation only until vaccine supply becomes more available. Breed said the site has the capacity to ramp up to 1,000 vaccinations a day. (4/8)
Vaccination availability has been unpredictable in San Francisco, with the Moscone Center—SF’s largest vaccination site—pausing its operations a little more than a week after opening due to vaccine shortages from the federal government. (6/8)
On the bright side, Dr. Colfax said Tuesday that nearly 50% of San Franciscans over 65 have now received at least one dose of the vaccine. "Last week, we were under a third of that population,” he said. “We are making great progress, but it is contingent on supply.” (7/8)
The SF Market vaccination site will initially operate Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Appointments can be made at http://SF.gov/getvaccinated , through Sutter's My Health Online portal or by dialing Sutter's call center at 844-987-6115. (8/8)
