WB is now between a rock and a hard place( a thread).
All WB ever wanted was to make Marvel level money. And they would've gotten there eventually.
BvS was, up to 2017, their most successful movie. It made nearly 900 million, being the second DCU movie, featuring 3 characters.

But WB wanted/expected to make over a billion, like Avengers, without, of course, stopping to think that Avengers was MCU's sixth movie featuring 6 characters.
They just didn't want to wait that long or even less.

When critics, who've always hated Snyder and can't seem to find a single flaw in a Disney movie, kept bashing BvS, Geoff Johns saw his chance to take over from Snyder as universe builder and convinced Emmerich it was all Snyder's fault.
He made movies too different from Marvel's.
He made movies too different from Marvel's.
They then decided what was built up to that point would be discarded and they'd start copying MCU's formula best they could.
They destroyed SS trying (and failing) to turn it into GotG via editing, and took out any reference to JL from it and WW.

They also tried to force Snyder to stick to their plans until he was out.
They then brought Whedon in and spent even more money remaking JL. Emmerich didn't care whether it was good, they just needed to release it on time for them to receive their checks before the merger.

Johns saw his chance to finally cement his position as DC's Feige and made sure Whedon made JL as bad and awful as possible (half the bad things in that movie are there by design).
They wanted it to fail. They needed it to be bad.
Because every one of them would still win.

Emmerich would get his money.
Whedon would be covered by the official version that stated all he did was make some reshoots to salvage what he could from an "unwatchable" movie (remember only Snyder was credited as director?).

And Johns had his baby Flashpoint storyline up his sleeve that'd give him the perfect excuse to delete the Snyderverse once and for all.
Who cared what JL's reviews would say?
They would blame it all on Snyder (as both WB and GJ certainly had their bloggers legion do non-stop).

After all, they'd make sure Zack's movie would never see the light of day for people to compare.
So JL was, as expected, disgusting and the studio predictably lost a fortune.
And the planned MCU-cloned DCU started: Aquaman, Shazam, BoP and WW84.

Each one of them was still set in the Snyderverse, but disconnected enough (some forcibly so, like Aq and BoP) to set the new tone until Flashpoint.
By the way, all but BoP were strictly based on GJ's runs in the comics or straight up written by him.

Then comes AT&T.
They notice after 3 years people are still clamoring for ZSJL's release and decide to go with it against WB's wishes.
It's a movie everybody wanted. It was almost finished. Snyder's previous DC movies' numbers were solid.

It'd be the perfect hook to bring people to HBOMax, AT&T's only real interest.
For a communications company, streaming is THE viable future for cinematic content, not a decaying movie industry. That's what they bought the company for. And the pandemic further proved their point!

And they're the ones that call the shots at the end of the day. They are the OWNERS of it all.
They can easily make (and did make) decisions against WB's interests, like releasing almost every WB movie for 2021 on HBOMax instead of sticking to theatres.

So now WB, namely Emmerich and his Smithers, Walter Hamada (who came in after the JL fiasco) are cornered. Because when ZSJL gets released come March 18 and it's a hit, their whole house of cards will com tumbling down.
It will prove not to be the unwatchable movie the claimed it was, making null their justification for everything they did and all the money they lost the studio for personal gain and selfish office poilitics (amongst which are Ray Fisher's accusations of their abusive tactics).
Their lack of concern for the company's best interests will be exposed to their AT&T bosses.
So you can see why they're going out of their way to dismiss ZSJL at every turn, applying any combination od dirty maneuvers:
So you can see why they're going out of their way to dismiss ZSJL at every turn, applying any combination od dirty maneuvers:
- Labelling it as a cul de sac.
- Releasing WW84 before it to further cement the much different course an tone chosen for the future of the DCU.
- Refusing to promote ZSJL on their usual channels.

- Trying to steal its thunder by releasing Godzilla v Kong almost on the same day (they were fortunately out-maneuvered)
- Releasing a new trailer for GvK on the same day ZSJL's long announced trailer comes out.
- Unleashing their web-haters legion in full.

All this screams desperation.
When an animal is cornered, all it can do is turn around and try to bite.
WB has no intention to move forward with the Snyderverse, true.
The question is, will they have the last word on the matter?
