Thread. Common phrases we utter to ourselves and others..

“I feel fat” - Fat is not a feeling. When we use “fat” to describe a negative feeling, it stigmatizes large people. 1/x
“She’s fair and pretty” - Using “fair” and “pretty” in the same sentence perpetuates the idea that in order to feel pretty, one must be fair-skinned and it vilifies dark people. 2/x
"Wow, you’ve lost weight!” - Using weight loss as a compliment reinforces the belief that the only way to look good is to lose weight. 3/x
“I ate so much, I need to burn it off” - Working out or exercise shouldn’t be used as punishment and eating shouldn’t be used as reward for “working out” either. Exercise should be about building physical strength, mental health, flexibility and endurance which has ... Cont.
