Let’s play “think of climate crisis jobs that aren’t “wind turbine and solar panel installer!”

I’ll start:

Social workers to help resettle climate refugees

Who else do we need?
How about

Frontline community lawyers, whose job will to keep the social costs of the new energy system from falling on the same people hit by the old one?
As someone thinking about the walkable city question, I’d add “local historians and activists! Who can tell you where the segregation lines are in the city, and where people of color are afraid to walk!”
Also, a ton of teachers to train them. And a lot of boots-on-the ground people to monitor the health of restored ecosystems!
For sure! Also, people to work out where sheep can and can’t live without doing damage. (Little agricultural historian moment here.)

Yes! Also, specialists in landlord tenant law who can keep them from raising the rent! (Every job comes with more jobs, a bonus!)

https://twitter.com/solenodon/status/1361877552529248257?s=21 https://twitter.com/solenodon/status/1361877552529248257
Oh, another one.

Experts in cultural fire, from the groups who developed cultural fire, to talk to people who do prescribed burns.

Also, more people doing prescribed burns.
SO MUCH COMMUNICATION TO BE DONE. SO MUCH PERSUASION NEEDED.

Yes! And also, some kind of system to compensate poor farmers in the centers of crop diversity for maintaining that diversity in situ!

https://twitter.com/may_gun/status/1361879812130840580?s=21 https://twitter.com/may_gun/status/1361879812130840580
Ok, keep playing, friends, I’ll be back in a minute.
Hire Dr. Masemann! And many historians! (Full disclosure, I am a historian)

https://twitter.com/bigorangebike/status/1361885352219136000?s=21 https://twitter.com/bigorangebike/status/1361885352219136000
Omg yes. And also, like, new kinds of hydraulic engineers maybe? Less ground water pumping? I know we’ve moved away from giant dams?

An ag themed list of climate jobs from @SilvoPastured

Yes! For the maintenance of joy! And the processing of grief!

I bet there are more things, which I, a non-artist, cannot think of.

An important corrective to my previous tweet about cultural fire.

This thread is pro corrective

So many gardeners! Also, a nursery system that doesn’t need to move so much rootstock around the country, spreading our rich collection of fungal diseases, so lots of little nurseries.

Also, I know there are a lot of these already, but we need a ton of lawyers, to sue the hell out of the fossil fuel industry for old damages, and to get in the way of new fossil fuel development.
Particularly the ones who got into fighting wildfires while imprisoned, and want to continue when released, for an actual wage, and are not allowed!

If you are wondering if there will be an exclamation point in each of these tweets there will!

Exclamation points remain plentiful, and I see no need to ration them.
A good list of jobs here! In fact, I think most of the jobs in this thread exist, it’s just that many of them are very, very poorly funded and undervalued and done by wildly overworked people.

Hello, yes to all of this, but particularly the therapists!

Yes! And paid administrative support, so that meeting reminders go out, and bills get paid, and no one is trying to run the whole thing on the force of personality.

I like v. much that this makes listening a job as well as communication!

I am going to bed now, but I think there are a lot of moves left in this game and I’ll be back in the morning.
Yup yup! And I would add, K-12 teachers trained in ecology and climate, and given worker protections enough to withstand parental resistance. https://twitter.com/nightborntravel/status/1362067053474058243?s=20
Yes! And to keep fossil fuel companies from distributing their stored wealth to shareholders instead of cleaning up their mess and from leaving their workers out to dry https://twitter.com/PeresSonya/status/1362075157871931395?s=20
For sure, sci comm people! And some system for making sure they are compensated for their work other than by clicks! https://twitter.com/nightborntravel/status/1362067053474058243?s=20
And (more) people working in refrigerant disposal! (Thanks to @ProjectDrawdown for making me aware of this) https://twitter.com/GCIGreenCooling/status/1362060677364518916?s=20
Yes, this, v. much! https://twitter.com/STEWest/status/1361908352087777283?s=20
Pretty excited about both peatlands experts and community organizers https://twitter.com/MarkNor57673815/status/1362058062236893194?s=20
Blue carbon has entered the chat! Also, upland experts in stream restoration and buffer planting (calling in from the Susquehanna River here) https://twitter.com/RobertJNowicki/status/1362056937794400261?s=20
Pretty much here for all lawsuit planning, but I like greenwashing lawsuits a lot. https://twitter.com/JulianWillming/status/1362048229987258368?s=20
THIS 100% https://twitter.com/PeresSonya/status/1362078817813168130?s=20
Listen, you people are all very good at this game and I am very happy about it. I am going to go eat with/make lunch for my kids, but I'll be dropping back in!
Yes! And organizers to get those politicians elected, keep them in office, and pressure the politicians who are already in office! https://twitter.com/larrymenkes/status/1362124623459082244?s=20
Yes! And ideally move people with other people they know, so they don't lose the social networks that help them manage the world. https://twitter.com/Jawanza/status/1362107609281626119?s=20
For real. And to chase through tax havens to get owed taxes for some of this here public investment. https://twitter.com/poolandspaman/status/1362119298794332160?s=20
An important corrective on the first tweet: https://twitter.com/evalyn_ten/status/1362129315845074946?s=20
Yes! And ways to fund improvements that don't lead to debt--e.g. not microloans. https://twitter.com/HMcGray/status/1362123626686918658?s=20
