Listening to the @GrantWahl podcast with ex-Arsenal CEO and current AC Milan CEO, Ivan Gazidis.

Here are the main areas of focus for the Milan executive as he looks to revive the club..

SHORT THREAD 👇🏻
1/ Buy young, hungry players.

Presumptuously, the goal is to flip these young players for profit & create a new stream of revenue.

Milan, Leipzig, & Monaco (16-17) are examples this doesn’t necessarily mean a sacrifice in performance and lead to new streams of revenue.
2/ Curtail spending (primarily on players) to closer align with revenues.

It’s clear that Gazidis is focused on running a fiscally responsible operation that reflects Milan’s current financial situation. The time will come when revenues allow for scaled spending.
3/ “Bring process and strategic thinking to Italian football.”

The passion and romance of Italian football make this a difficult task. Gazidis is navigating a cultural challenge and is focused on bringing a state of process and strategy to Milan, a sleeping giant.
4/ Build a new stadium.

It’s clear to Gazidis that the current San Siro, in all its glory, doesn’t have the necessary requirements to service modern football fans, nor allow for modern matchday revenues.
5/ Usher the club into a modern, digital era.

With an investment in technology, Milan is growing its digital footprint at exponential rates. They have brought in new commercial partners & are growing commercial revenues as an output of their investment in digital transformation.
6/ The future of European football.

The most vague, but arguably the most important long-term. AC Milan have struggled to consistently qualify for the Champions League. Gazidis is well connected and strengthens Milan’s position in possible future formats of European football.
