So what makes no sense to me is this.

The oath that you take in court modifies free speech such that telling a lie morphs from a protected act to a criminal act.

Is there any reason that public officials' oaths of office should operate any differently?
Why do public officials have any constitutionally protected right to serve complete and utter BS to their constituents in their formal capacity as Officers of the public trust?

Public officials should be held to higher standards of conduct than the public.
The swearing in of public officials should include as part of all oaths, a promise to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth in regards to all official communication.

The only reason not to is literally to allow politicians to lie to us legally.
