People in Texas, I’m sure this is a little useless but I’ll feel better saying the things I remember from when we had no power for a few days 7 years ago mid winter due to an ice storm. So ignore me if these are not helpful but anyhow:
If you have gas or a fireplace of course keep it running. Boil water in pots in your BBQ to fill hot water bottles if you have them. If your stove works make sure to leave the door oven door open post cooking to add extra heat. Close off the rooms you aren’t using and put towels
under the doors. Keep pets in the same living space as you. Heat rises, choose an upstairs room if you don’t have fire & keep everyone together for body heat. Layers work better than one big item. Make a blanket fort. This is probably useless but felt I had to say it anyhow.
Everyone pls add your tips if you have them!
Put towels along any windows or doors that air could be getting in.
Use garbage bags, tarps or even sheets to cover open space door ways to extra rooms
Grab rugs from other rooms and bring them to the space you’re staying in to insulate the floors better. Cuddle, exercise low impact so you don’t sweat but your blood keeps flowing.
You also lose more body heat through your head and feet so cover that head even if it’s with some makeshift hat out of a tshirt or towel wrap. Okay I’ll stop now.
