/ I'm so ready to move on from this, but I really felt the need to close out my thoughts on this in a good way. First, I want to send some love and support out there to indigenous folks who have been working hard to understand and reconnect with their community. https://twitter.com/danisgoulet/status/1361354559344451585
/ I wanted to take the conversation beyond one person's mistakes and expand on storytelliing ethics in my community.
/ Also as someone in the comments so succinctly summarized my explanation, to talk about proximity to whiteness vs. proximity to trauma and how those affect our career trajectories.
/ Lastly I want to add something I said that didn't make the final cut of the podcast: I apologize to and thank the black and lgbtq2s indigenous folks who pointed out to me why the simplistic statement of "it's not who you claim, but who claims you" is problematic.
/ Although this is not the case for ML, sometimes communities/families reject indigenous folks due to anti-black racism and other forms of discrimination. It's important to acknowledge that legit indigenous people are sometimes not claimed by a community.
/ So if you have the time, please have a listen to this Canadaland podcast episode. I'm so thankful for @RMComedy's words, especially that he opens with a call to stop harasssing Eden Robinson and respect her wishes as the creator of the Trickster trilogy. Buy book 3 on March 3!
