I don't know what the prevailing mood is about SIX DAYS IN FALLUJAH, but it seems to me like it's an excellent vehicle for thinking about videogames as an artform. https://www.polygon.com/2021/2/15/22279600/six-days-in-fallujah-interview-iraq-war-politics?utm_campaign=polygon&utm_content=entry&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter
It seems like the artistic intent here is to tell a story of historical significance using the visceral power of FPS videogames. CALL OF DUTY and the like use military combat for cheap thrills, and this game (allegedly) wants to use those mechanics to explore real combat.
That's a laudable goal, in my opinion. Military shooters are a fantasy, and in a country with insane ideas about the military--what it's for and what it can do--trying to reach people and engage with that misperception through popular and accessible forms of art is good.
