For all my new followers, I need to be clear on my area of expertise. I run nuclear reactors for a living. I know a lot about reactors. I know a lot about electrical generation. I am NOT an expert on the wider grid, renewables, or energy policy. I do have opinions. 1/
I try to differentiate between my opinions & facts. I am wrong at times. In this case, I was wrong about the wind turbines in MN. They are designed for the cold and ran as well as the available wind allowed. NG plants were the main generation issue, due to supply limitations. 2/
1 Rx in Texas tripped due to a frozen instrument line. The turbine deck sits out in the open, and isn't normally exposed to this kind of cold. The same exact design unit right next to it stayed online. Dozens of other units did too. Nuclear isn't perfect, but it is reliable. 3/
I do believe in climate change, & that renewables and nuclear power are both key to a clean grid. I also believe that right now renewables are not capable of supplying the grid solo, until we solve intermittency & storage issues. 4/
I believe nuclear is safe. I have a lot of facts that support this opinion. If you have questions about nuclear power, I will honestly answer them, with no intent to sway you other than providing facts for you to assess, and my opinion based on my 20 yrs of experience. 5/
I will block you if I think you are trolling, or just being an ass. This is my TL, I can do what I want with it. I am always ok with different takes on an issue, and am willing to agree to disagree. That does not include racism, sexism, or any other bigotry. Just don't. -END-
