A ? Ive gotten from reporters today: Is Texas crisis a result of deregulation of electric generation? It is hard to say until all the facts are in, but this feels like a systematic failure in planning that extends across all parties & it is not clear deregulation plays any role.
The failure to plan for and weatherize against this extreme cold extends from the grid operator (ERCOT), individual power plant owners of almost all types (gas, coal, nuclear, wind), pipeline utilities (which froze up) and even building design and construction practices...
... (limited insulation for cold weather) which makes Texas gas and electricity demand extremely sensitive to cold weather events.

I dont really see how regulated vs deregulated plays into much of that, given how systemic planning failures are here. /end
