consider this part of the 1844 Manuscripts where Marx discusses one major aspect of alienation. the interpersonal aspects of production -- I make something for You, not merely I make something, and later You acquire it -- is a major thing that we loose through alienation
now, this came about historically because of how capitalism drove the way industrialization played out. centralization and concentration of wealth and capital, not only into a few hands, but into a few *places*

the weavers cottage is gone and dead, the factory weaves all
when Russia and China underwent rapid industrialization, they didn't roll out electric looms to the weavers cottages

they build textile factories.

in their rush to industrialize and raise quality of life, the putatively communist governments recreates a major alienating force
you could take the perspective that these governments are drawing out the contradictions of State Capitalism and attempting to hasten the transition to True Communism by revealing the problems of these modes of production but thats too God Emperor of Dune for me
while capitalism drove this aspect of alienation, the alienation itself is embedded in the use of factories not capitalism. capitalism was the causal origin but not its embodiment and reproduction
for this reason, i believe that the Left's focus on revolutionary change of who holds the reigns of power can never truly work

the understanding is all wrong. the problems are not merely who runs things. the problem is the very way we organize our economies
so while a revolution can take the factories from the capitalists, if that's all it ever does, if it only ever changes whole controls the factories, then we're failing to solve the problem

the alienation will continue to exist and the loss of our humanity will continue
instead, the Left must embrace a new approach, one in which we address everything consciously: where we ask not only how can we over throw capitalism, which is a long discussed topic

but also how can we replace the factory with something better, more human
