I have previously mentioned my distain for the "other" box for race/ethnicity, but, I need to be clear.
I am here to encourage that these questions include:
1. A bi/multiracial box
or
2. checking multiple boxes
If you have a survey w/o these options, you NEED TO DO BETTER.

Not only are you missing important data and conducting a survey that is incomplete, but how do you treat that data? What happens to it? Why are you collecting the data if you do not take care in constructing the question?
The number of people that have reached out to me to say "I hate having to choose" or "the other box is just awkward and it doesn't describe me" is astounding. This reminds me of when I was in high school and told to "pick the non-white part of you" when applying to college.
The impact of having to ask people of mixed race/ethnic decent to "choose" is exhausting. I am tired. I am tired that groups/entities claim to care about "diversity", but then have blatant examples that they only care if it fits into their neat little boxes.
To my fellow bi/multiracial and multiethnic folks, I see you. I may not know exactly what you are experiencing, but I see you and I want better for you.
