lets be real the Actual underlying convo here is: is sexual content okay? and apparently we're receding to puritan cultural values because the answer increasingly seems to be "no. think of all the children (whom this content Isnt For). think of the Breakdown Of Society-" https://twitter.com/miwltank/status/1361585920105996288
this cycle of sex being BAD and then being fine and then BAD has been happening for thousands of years and for some reason we never seem to learn that sex is fine and natural??? lets talk about Consent and how to have good convos ab that then maybe the Actual issues would better
i have this kind of conversation a lot ive thought a lot about it and consumed a lot of information about it and while it IS nuanced the important bit is that there should be better safety built in to keep underaged people out of adult content communities and better info overall
lets follow this up in a little more detail: twitter Has The Ability to make a setting so we can make particular tweets not safe for work and then make it so accounts under eighteen cant see those tweets, theyre Choosing not to do that, its not the fault of creators
counterarguments:
1. but nami kids will lie about their age on their accounts
2. but nami creators should just post somewhere else it shouldnt be on twitter at all
1. but nami kids will lie about their age on their accounts
2. but nami creators should just post somewhere else it shouldnt be on twitter at all
1. youre right they Will lie, but creators wont be held legally accountable for not knowing that. i dont think teens should be raised unaware of sex anyway, its dangerous, they WILL have sex and interact with porn, Teach Them About It, but adults accs arent gonna be that teacher
2. this is a little more subjective and nuanced, but from my point of view i dont think adult content creators should be banned from an audience. increasingly its getting less safe for people to even Talk about sex and porn much less be paid for it, i dont think thats okay
first, these things will Always be created, its better and safer to put proper guidelines and tagging systems into place to keep sex workers and content creators safe, places like ao3 understand that its why their system works the way it does
ppl will always do bad things and abuse the system, thats true, but if those guidelines are clearly stated then its possible to pick out which people are Actually abusing minors, harrassing people, improperly tagging, etc etc, if its undefined the actual problems get away w it
secondly, i bet you dont know this, but its increasingly unsafe for sex workers/nsfw creators to be paid. patreon has started banning it, kofi bans it, paypal is wildly problematic in General, and these people still deserve to make a safe living off of content ppl want
you can easily look up studies, but making sexual content illegal or illegal in consequence doesnt mean it stops being made it means it stops being SAFE and now those same people are significantly more likely to end up in situations that could harm them
if youre okay with that outcome then your issue is not ppl's safety, its that you want the power that comes from moral superiority over others. This Is Puritan Culture. if millenials and gen z are going to pride ourselves on being progressive, we have to Act Like It
thirdly, there arent other places to post our content unless we want no one to see it. tumblr bans nsfw, tiktok bans it, instagram bans it, facebook and twitter are increasingly banning it. there ISNT an Appropriate Time And Place bc we seem to be deeming all sex as,, bad.
the point of all this is that sex workers and creators arent bad people and bad communities. there are bad apples everywhere but in my experience ive never found groups that are more respectful of my boundaries as nsfw creators, whether thats irl porn or nsfw fandom circles
on a whole we WANT our content to be innaccessible to minors, we WANT adults who dont want to see our content able to filter it out and we WANT there to be more safety in general. we just also want to exist in the daylight without death threats, that doesnt seem impossible to me
huffs, ok, i think i explained most of my thought process. if u have an onion or want me to clarify a thought im happy to do so
