Erdoğan's speech today on making Turkish a world language was fairly cutting: he said that language was a tool of imperialism and that peoples worldwide who had given up their language had subsequently lost their religions.
Obviously part of this is reflective of beefs with English-speaking Boğaziçi University and French-speaking Galatasaray University, as well as ongoing discrimination claims from pro-Erdoğan academics whose careers have suffered because they cannot pass language tests.
There are three ways forward as I see it: either stay the course and transmit information in both Turkish and foreign languages, abandon foreign knowledge and fall behind, or devote most resources to one niche where you become so far ahead that others learn Turkish to access it.
