Interesting thread of research showing white people limit interaction with nonwhite people.
The author frames this as structural racism- but I don't think homophily in any other ethnic group would be regarded as racism. 1/2 https://twitter.com/jonj/status/1361707702733443076
Can we transcend homophily (preference to interact w others more similar)?
Authors suggest given whites choose to self segregate in diverse areas, we should engineer more contact- but what if all ethnic groups prefer to interact amongst themselves? 2/2

I think if you said "we're trying to create environments to compel black people to interact with white people" that would be... unpopular.
Impressive paper and studies (+ goes against narrative that living in diverse areas makes people less racist)- but the framing, that homophily is bad and that we should leverage top down strategies to compel groups to interact, definitely is more popular among white liberals.
Even though I have misgivings, it's very refreshing to see anyone make policy recommendations about ameliorating racism that aren't vague, incoherent or based on debunked psych ideas (eg implicit bias). So, another reason this is impressive. https://twitter.com/sentientist/status/1361763624637841408
The shooting range is still the most ethnically diverse club I've ever witnessed, and on multiple visits. Although there is not a lot of opportunity for interaction it seems that firearms and defending property are a common interest across many groups. https://twitter.com/sentientist/status/1275819847453040647
