GENOCIDE THREAD: In light of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's recent refusal to call China's treatment of Uyghurs genocide I thought it might be useful to do a thread on genocide. What is it? Why is it bad? https://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-trudeau-refuses-to-call-chinas-treatment-of-uyghurs-a-genocide
/ The UN's Genocide Convention defines genocide as "acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group".
https://www.un.org/en/genocideprevention/genocide.shtml
https://www.un.org/en/genocideprevention/genocide.shtml
/ The UN explains that a nation can commit genocide by deliberately imposing living conditions that seek to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part, preventing births, or forcibly transferring children out of the group to another group.
/ The Chinese Communist Party's policy of forced sterilization of Uyghur women meets the UN definition of genocide @JustinTrudeau. https://www.justsecurity.org/71615/chinas-forced-sterilization-of-uyghur-women-violates-clear-international-law/
/ China's own statistics show that from 2015 to 2018, birth rates in the mostly Uyghur regions of Hotan and Kashgar plunged by more than 60%. https://apnews.com/article/269b3de1af34e17c1941a514f78d764c
/ The Chinese Communist Party's policy of detaining more than a million Uyghurs because of their religion in 380 concentration camps meets the UN's definition of genocide @JustinTrudeau. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/sep/24/china-has-built-380-internment-camps-in-xinjiang-study-finds
/ The Chinese Communist Party has justified their genocide against the Uyghurs by classifying them as right-wing extremists and Muslim-nationalists. Calling their efforts "Strike Hard Campaign against Violent Terrorism". https://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/11/world/asia/11xinjiang.html
/ In 2018, the UN decried the "broad definition of terrorism and vague references to extremism" used by CCP laws, noting that there were numerous reports of detention of large numbers of ethnic Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities on the "pretext of countering terrorism".
/ In 2019 The Wall Street Journal said that the Chinese government consistently misuses "counterterrorism" as a pretext for cultural suppression and human rights abuses. Much like the Democrats are attempting to do to Trump supporters in the US.
/ More shocking is the policy of forced cohabitation, co-sleeping, rape, and abortion. The CCP placed more than one million Chinese government social workers in the homes of Uyghur families as spies. https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/09/opinions/uyghur-home-visit-opinion-intl/index.html
/ These social workers were required to sleep in the same bed as the Uyghur woman to promote ethnic unity. The program was literally called "Pair Up and Become Family". Uyghurs called the program "mass rape". https://www.news.com.au/world/asia/this-is-mass-rape-china-slammed-over-program-that-appoints-men-to-sleep-with-uighur-women/news-story/ed45cd065e39690354b6402d02904557
/ Fortunately, the social workers mostly slept with the wives of Uyghur men being held in concentration camps and only after the Uyghur women had been sterilized. https://www.rfa.org/english/news/uyghur/cosleeping-10312019160528.html
/ The good news is that the forced harvesting of Uyghur organs is declining as co-sleeping has increased. The CCP mostly harvests organs from the Falun Gong religious group now. https://web.archive.org/web/20120915082736/http://foreignaffairs.house.gov/112/HHRG-112-FA17-WState-GutmannE-20120912.pdf
/ Hey @mcuban and @JustinTrudeau can we just agree that the Chinese Communist Party is committing genocide - at least the sort of behavior that is defined by the UN as genocide? Please?
