As the world becomes more attuned to the gem that is Louisiana culture, I want to remind outsiders that these are not your stories to tell. This is not your pot to dip in. Southerners are already so disenfranchised - don’t co-opt our stories. You don’t know what to do with them.
If you want to see this culture on the screen more, pour into the storytellers and creators who have lived in it. Support them, don’t silence them by taking their place.
Ain’t nothing wrong with being wooed or inspired or romanced by it - this is a magical place. But to bastardize that magic and make it your ticket because it’s “different”? Don’t do that, ma. Find your truth.
And I’m sorry but don’t try to justify it with “I got southern roots” either. Because it is a very different thing to be raised here. And to actively still be based here too.
