smash brothers is honestly so fucking weird isnt it. whether or not the game is actually fun and whether or not it NEEDS (or can feasibly even support) more characters is just not discussed. its just become a mark of status -a gaming hall of fame first, and a playable game second

when people talk about wanting characters in smash, its all these different fandoms all vying at relevance. everyone clutching at limited slots, desperate to see their mascot put on the stage so they can say 'YES! SEE? RAYMAN HAS ACHIEVED THE RECOGNITION OF THE GODS OF GAMING!'

this absurd squabbling over fandom status and recognition dominates 100% of smash bros character discourse. how many people actually get greater enjoyment from playing the game once their dream character is added vs. just get a glow of satisfaction over seeing them next to mario

taking a step back and seeing what a bloated, chaotic, unplayable mess ssbu has actually become (and kinda always was tbh) makes the continual parade of new characters and franchises even more ludicrous. this is less a game and more just an interactive museum of gaming lol
