Lots of developers I've talked to think SEO is nothing more than a "marketing scam".

But done right, SEO isn't just a systematic way to grow traffic your blog or side project — it can improve UX & accessibility at the same time.

Here's 5 ways to improve SEO, UX, a11y, at once:
1/ Write articles on topics people are searching for with keyword research

One example: Developers tend to include the name of the tech stack in search queries.

So don't forget to include the tech stack in your blog post title & h1, some of most important spots for keywords ☝️
2/ Tell us when your post was "Last Updated" instead of "Published"

For some queries, freshness is a factor search engines consider for ranking. Which makes sense: reading a whole tutorial only to notice it's outdated is the worst.

You can even automate the dates with git 🛠
3/ Include error messages in your post

When's the last time you followed a tutorial and didn't have any errors pop up? Basically never.

Including solutions to errors is great for readers, and helps those of us googling error messages (before reading them 😜) find your blog.
4/ Attract backlinks by ranking on Hacker News

Backlinks are links from external websites to yours. To put it simply, search engines see these kinda like an "upvote" for your article.

Tons of sites use HN as a content source and will link your site. Small effort, big impact.
5/ Last but not least, make your site accessible!

Assistive technologies have a lot of similarities to web crawlers used by search engines.

Making your site semantic, accessible, and descriptive goes a long way towards helping BOTH of them interpret your content.
SEO is a really cool and interesting area of the web that, IMO, developers mostly miss out on.

That's why I made a free email course & newsletter that teaches blogging and SEO for developers ✨
