I generally believe if something is good you should simply pay for it, but LastPass has changed its business model and pricing so much that I think I am just going to switch to a company that is clear about its model and why it charges what it does https://www.vice.com/en/article/pkd88v/lastpass-free-accounts-will-now-work-on-either-your-phone-or-computer-not-both
This is part of LastPass's statement, which is frankly terrible. "We are making our product worse to make it more like our competitors, who also have a bad product." And:
"You can use the free version on ALL OF YOUR PHONES, but not your computer. or vice versa." This is a product design and user experience designed for no one, and suggests LastPass has no idea what it's doing
I have used LastPass for many years and am thankful that it exists, and for years it was great. I will now be switching to something else, and paying for something else, because the way this decision is being explained makes clear to me that I cannot trust this company anymore
This is the latest in a line of really confusing pricing decisions: I paid for LastPass for a long time, then let it lapse because they made the free tier indecipherable from Premium while raising the price on Premium. Now they are differentiating them again, by making free worse
I have recommended LastPass to dozens of friends over the years because “it makes things easier, just do it and never think about it again.” I am now having to think about my passwords again which for basically everyone is too often and will lead to worse security for its users
