Everyone in the softball community knows that @UACoachMurphy surpassed 1,100 wins at Alabama over the weekend.
What that stat doesn’t tell you is the life lessons he passes out every day. (Maybe like a million...)
He was my boss for 5 years.
These are five I use daily

1. Mudita.
If you follow @AlabamaSB you know this term well.
It’s essentially finding joy in the success of others.
If your coworker succeeds, can you be just as happy as if you succeeded - or is there a tinge of jealousy?
Choose joy - see the dugout for examples.

2. Attitude of Gratitude
Pretty self explanatory but Murph takes it to another level.
Hand written notes, phone calls, unexpected acts of kindness.
Find ways to be grateful every single day.

3. Be FIRST.
When you find yourself at a Bama practice, players and staff will be the first to shake your hand (pre-COVID - now maybe an elbow) and make you feel welcome.
Be first to say hi, be first to engage, be first to the cage for practice, be first to shovel snow

4. PERSON over athlete…
...or insert any other “title”.
Everyone is a human being first - handling human things every day.
Their title is what they do.
Leaders must care for the person first. Done correctly, it frees the other person to be their best at what they do.

5. Sense of Urgency.
Murph's practices are known for being TOT (time on task) and FAST!
Play fast.
Work fast.
Correct mistakes along the way.
Don’t hesitate - DO IT NOW.

There are so many more - and if you get the chance go see them in person. You'll get your money's worth and more!
Grateful for you @UACoachMurphy! Stay warm and get after it this weekend!
