Confirmation bias:
A thread. 1/n

Confirmation bias, also called confirmatory is the tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that confirms one's preexisting beliefs or hypotheses—while giving disproportionately less consideration to alternative possibilities.

I am not immune to this human condition—with that said, I work hard and diligently to avoid becoming too set in my beliefs/reasoning.
Here are my favorite ways to avoid confirmation bias:
3/n

Expose yourself to many different views, and seek disagreement with your current ideas.
4/n

Remove your ego. Sometimes we are wrong and that's ok! This is how we learn. You’re going to have to embrace humility.
5/n

Ask better questions. Listen to the way you ask questions. Are you looking for others to support your reasoning? Or are you being genuinely inquisitive?
6/n

Take in all information and don't jump to conclusions too quick. I give myself a couple days to process information before I decide whether to integrate the new data or discard it.
7/n

Don’t make bold assertions that put others off. This is a sure way to never hear alternative perspectives. No one wants to share their ideas with someone who has it all figured out.
