it has made us less safe, while murdering innocents, destroying the environment, eroding civil liberties, fueling bigotry, justifying government secrecy, and risking nuclear apocalypse (there's a section on each of these points on the homepage of http://worldbeyondwar.org )

the public has long favored moving money from war and war preparations to human and environmental emergencies (see data for progress poll last summer on moving 10% just before Congress voted against moving 10%)

the tradeoffs are incredible, unfathomable, unimaginable; 3% of $1t could end starvation on earth ( https://worldbeyondwar.org/3percent -- I think that's the link, the site is down)

there is no need and it makes zero sense to start talking in nationalist manner about spending the money ON US, the important 4% of humanity, the military budget is enough that a fraction of it could transform the US *and* the rest of the world

an infrastructure plan or green new deal that doesn't move money from military spending is not serious, is tying one hand behind its back
we don't need a smaller or larger government, but a different one -- we need to MOVE money

congress mems for decades have pattern of lying about commitments, so we need them to not just join a new caucus or make a new statement but to swear on their campaign "contributions" that they will vote against any military spending bill that does not move at least 10% out

(it only takes a small number of Democrats in one house to stop a bill if Republicans find their own crazy reasons to oppose it)

the federal government is arming police with war weapons, not to save money, but to spend more money on newer weapons -- see https://rootsaction.org
