Rating football TV intros: A thread 👇
Sky Sports 20/21 Premier League Intro:

Let’s kick this all off with Sky Sports’ newest offering.

A far better upgrade on last season’s monstrosity, the vocal part at the end ensures that this intro has the potential to be labelled iconic in years to come.

(8/10)
UEFA Champions League intro:

Not too much has changed over time, with the anthem and design remaining similar throughout the years.

This intro has some serious presence doesn’t it? The grandeur and splendour of the whole thing creates a real sense of occasion. Legendary

(9/10)
ITV England intro:

The soundtrack to pointless friendly matches and qualifiers against San Marino.

You can never go wrong with using The Verve, but perhaps this intro has had its time. After all, it’s been in use for over a decade now, needs freshening up.

(6/10)
BBC Match Of The Day Intro:

It’s an absolute classic, known by every household in Britain.

Maybe a little too traditional and boring in comparison to more modern/exciting intros, but the tune makes the show, and is a true British staple which will live forever.

(7/10)
ITV Premiership Highlights intro:

You will either be unaware of this, or ready to prepare for a world of nostalgia.

Nobody wants prem highlights on ITV, but the boys in charge of the intro absolutely smashed it here. The song and the editing is simply sublime.

(9/10)
Sky Sports ‘Written In The Stars’ PL intro:

Without a doubt the greatest football intro known to man.

It’s iconic yet masterful. A true screenshot of the Premier League’s golden era. A recollection of better times gone by, and we all bloody love it.

(10/10)
BT Sports 20/21 Premier League Intro:

Absolutely rubbish, do they even care?

(1/10)
Generic 06/07 Premier League Intro:

Not too bad, wouldn’t say it competes with the best, but it will do.

A solid PL anthem, mixed with quality nostalgia, a tad bit bland for my liking though, it doesn’t excite me.

(6/10)
Sky Sports ‘Higher’ PL Intro:

Not a bad choice of song, but a bit too try-hard.

While other intros effortlessly grace into awesomeness, this one falls slightly flat.

(5/10)
Sky Sports ‘Club Foot’ PL intro:

Now this is better.

Club Foot just screams out football, and the Ford sequence fits in perfectly.

However, the CGI graphics look a little bit dated in 2021.

(8/10)
BBC World Cup 2010 intro:

Now it’s time for BBC and ITV to go head to head with some World Cup intros, starting with 2010.

This one is alright, you are left with the feeling though that they could’ve done better. Feels a bit rushed.

(6/10)
ITV World Cup 2010 intro:

I personally prefer this one.

Catchy tune, not exactly spellbinding but does the job. Both channels had to raise their game ahead of 2014 though.

(7/10)
BBC World Cup 2014 intro:

Now I like this one. Great vibe throughout the video.

Good song choice, it feels like Brazil and a sense of occasion. Rather smooth in its delivery as well

(8/10)
ITV World Cup 2018 intro:

I feel ITV and BBC were neck-and-neck with this one.

Once again ITV win with the catchiness, but the cinematography falls short in comparison. However, the end result is polished and highly appealing.

(8/10)
BBC World Cup 2018 intro:

I love this one. The music is bouncing and the features are plentiful.

Perhaps boosted by England’s successful tournament, and the belting summer of 2018. But looking back in a far bleaker world, the quality of this intro still remains.

(9/10)
ITV World Cup 2018 intro:

They’ve ripped off ‘The Greatest Showman’ here.

Not terrible, but not very imaginative. Not exactly Russian either?

However, it’s pleasant enough, and it set the scene well for the tenseness and importance of an English WC semi-final.

(7/10)
Sky Sports new EFL Intro:

I don’t like it. Seems a bit cheap and carelessly put together.

Who on earth are ‘Nor Wich’ and ‘Wat Ford’ anyway? It’s poor and deserves a low rating.

(3/10)
Sky Sports old EFL Intro:

Now this is far better.

Great tune, great dramatic element. This is a league which needs an intro with more respect. And Sky got it bang on with the pomp and circumstance.

Imagine this before your side played a play-off match

(8/10)
And finally, the UEFA Europa League intro:

All stand for the official anthem of Man United!

The sound of disappointment, underperformance and Thursday nights. The song and intro ain’t too bad, but it can’t hold a candle to the Champions League version.
