2021 Rookie RB Profile

Chuba Hubbard

(and his fall from grace in 2020)

@TheUndroppables

(a thread)
For the 2019 season, Chuba was the most dominant running back in college but elected to go back to Oklahoma State.

As a sophomore:

13 games 328 attempts 2094 yards 6.4 y/c 21 TDs

23 recs 198 yards8.6 y/r 0 TDs

Impressive enough to be nominated for the Heisman.
Then 2020 happened. Problems with his coach wearing racially inappropriate clothing.

He stood up and spoke.

It got ironed out supposedly but Chuba wasn't the same.
His junior season did not go as planned.

He played in the first 7 games and put up pedestrian numbers...

7 g133 att 625 yards4.7 y/a 5 TDs

8 recs 52 yards 6.5 y/r 1 TD
After a disppointing first half of a season, Chuba decided to stop and get ready for this year's draft.

It left him in a precarious position.

It left him worse off than if he declared last season.

By a lot.
Guys like Kenny Gainwell who didn't play at all are remembered for their big 2019.

Not Chuba. He's viewed as the RB who went down a notch (or two or three).

Right now many have him ranked low.
The NFL Draft Bible has him RB10.

The Draft Network has him RB12.

WalterFootball has him RB10.

CBS has him RB10.

The Action Network RB6

I have not seen him ranked better than RB6 anywhere and he tends to be closer to 10th most of the time.
Hubbard's 2019 season rushing-wise has time as the NAACF's 18th leading rusher of all time

the next closest rival in this class is Jaret Patterson with 1799 playing in the Mid-American division, not the SEC.
Many are knocking Hubbard now.

He needs a scheme-fit.

He has a limited tree as a pass-catcher.

Limitations as a blocker.

He'd be a good backup.

A rotational player.
He's the next Tevin Colemen. Not "coming out of college dominant" Tevin Coleman but the Tevin Colemen who didn't live up to expections Tevin Coleman.
Draft Network has Chris Evans ahead of Hubbard.

Chris Evans in 4 years at Michigan had less than 1800 yards rushing.

WalterFooball has Larry Rountree & Demetric Felton ahead of Hubbard.

The NFL Bible also had Demetric Felton ahead of Hubbard.

Felton👇 most likely will be a WR
I hope he continues to fall even more.

He's a track star & will post one of the fastest 40 times if not the fastest out of these RBs.

He's 5'11 and is 207-lbs but may be bigger

He had more receptions in 2-years than JT did in college and we know how JT did last year...
in 2019:

Chuba had the third most Breakaway Runs. Higher percentage than JT, Dobbins, Swift, Akers, CEH.

Chuba had more Yards After Contact than JT👇, Swift, Akers and CEH, just behind Dobbins.

in 2020:

Chuba had a better Breakway Run % than Najee Harris, Felton & Rountree
But his value has plummeted.

Many see him being drafted on Day 3 now.

He's looking at late 2nd to the mid-3rd round of SF rookie mocks.
Incredible how much 7 games has changed a player's value within the fantasy community.

Especially considering what he did in 2019 on the field and what he stood up for in 2020.
Don't fall for recency bias.

- or, on the contrary...

please do.

My fantasy teams will thank you in 2021.

I'll be having a lot of Hubbard.

thanks for reading!
