At some point we have to talk about the dysfunction in Congress. The House isn't supposed to be a monarchy where the speaker vetoes committee chairs, overruling the decisions of members who are supposed to have authority on their area of expertise.
Everyone could see what an abuse of power it would be if the Foreign Affairs Committee, for example, recommended a deal with France, and then the speaker was like "No. I veto that. Change it to 'no deal' or I strip your chairmanship and kick you all off the committee."
So why was it okay when she did that to the Judiciary Committee after they started speaking up about Trump's crimes? It's not okay. It was abuse of her power, and because she did that, we'll never know if Trump could have been stopped before killing so many and trying a coup.
And here's another article demonstrating the long history of this behavior by the speaker, making herself effectively queen by withholding, manipulating, and pressuring committee chairs. https://www.salon.com/2011/02/08/harman_pelosi_congress/
Would we have a disgruntled Progressive wing, angry about Bush's abuses and convinced there's a "Democratic establishment" that doesn't care about anything but power, if this abusive person hadn't been supported to do these things? Well I think it would be less likely, anyway.
I want House Reform, a return to a speakership that takes the oath seriously, and acts as an administrator assisting the chairs in their tasks, not ruling them, and understands there is no "discretionary power" to simply ignore executive branch crimes.
And if there ever were to be such a power to ignore executive branch crimes, it would rest with the Judiciary Committee, an independent group of representatives tasked with judiciary matters, not servants of the speaker there to clerk for her on all matters.
