HAPPENING NOW: Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Queens County Democratic Party to designate/endorse candidates for public office. I'm on Zoom (and streaming it on Clubhouse!) now, folks are still chitchatting. (1/…) https://twitter.com/EmiliaDecaudin/status/1361537113326563330
Press is not being let in. https://twitter.com/DavidFBrand/status/1361694958890156035
Meeting is starting now. Michael Reich is reading the meeting notice.
We dispense with the reading of the roll, normal stuff. Meeting turns over to @RepGregoryMeeks.
We're going to vote on the party call, which is the document listing the party offices open this year, which is just going to be judicial delegates. Still annoying we didn't get it in advance at all, so I abstained.
(Well, not even in advance, not at all.)
Meeks is talking about some normative issues about representation, democracy, etc. Theoretically an improvement from Crowley et al., but let's see if it's met with fair process.
NEWS: @Queens_Dems will not be designated a mayoral candidate at this time. Meeks cites RCV.
Meeks puts @DavidWeprin into nomination for Comptroller, and @DrichardsQns for Borough President.
Moving on now to Civil Court. There are four vacancies. If I wanted to be annoying I could divide the question on each of these (six, so far) offices, but I would rather not.
Oh poop. We're doing City Council too. Blech. If they do in 26 I am going to blow a gasket (none of us were consulted).
Austin Shafran in 19. Sandra Ung in 20. Fransisco Moya in 20. James Genarro in 24. Ebony Young in 26. Adrienne Adams in 28. Lynn Schulman in 29. Brooks-Powers in 31.
I need to focus on this. I might be quiet.
Zachariah Boyer moves to divide the question by office. I second.
Hiram is trying to stir shit, sort of taking our side. We soundly reject his interference.
Giving respect to all involved, they are handing the motion correctly.
Motion to divide the question fails, 12 yes, 27 no.
We are now voting on the slate. I'm voting no, because I only agree with some candidates and not others.
Motion passes 37 to 10.
Slate is endorsed, Meeks is calling on the judicial candidates to make comments. I applaud for Michael Goldman, who is the first openly queer judge nominated for Civil Court.
Meeting adjourns shortly after.
