I welcome the confirmation today that there will be a return to school for a minority of pupils next week. But I am deeply concerned for all those who will lose out for at least another few weeks. The crisis for young people needs action #education #children #parents #Covid19
Since last May it has been obvious that extra facilities, more staff, volunteers and flexibility were all needed to help children recover and to ensure that ongoing restrictions were managed without creating a learning and mental/physical health crisis.
And yet today we still still have no national plan from @scotgov to engage youth leaders, mentors, telecoms & mobile companies re charges, former & future teachers and organisations that could help with indoor & outdoor facilities. Despite calls from schools & parents for action
Teenagers, children, their parents and their teachers all need more leadership than this. No one should expect miracles, or reckless decisions, but a pupil showing this lack of effort would get a fail on their report card. #candobetter
Education needs the same national, all hands on deck, do everything we can, leadership and support that was given to the NHS last spring. There is no excuse for less. Education is fully devolved. The Scottish government can change this any day it wants. Just do it.
