I’d invite our categorical colleagues to learn more about this case. It is alarming how Jeff Wiese et al allegedly used the vulnerability of MedPeds programming to his advantage, in alarming behavior against a Black woman colleague and her trainees 1/ https://twitter.com/arghavan_salles/status/1361503721423736832
The context: MedPeds programs and residents are uniquely vulnerable to the whim and goodwill of their categorical programs, to ensure that we get our ACGME requirements completed and explore our interests in electives 2/
This is alarming to those who may already feel that they are unwanted in academic medicine. Each story they hear is an additional insult. We wait to see what consequences will occur, if any. 3/
Last It is personally heartbreaking bc I would honestly not be in medicine for this long without #MedPeds. It is the one space I belong & gives me joy. I have not practiced Peds for the past yr bc of covid & I miss it terribly. 4/
To trainees and students who were troubled by this story, I do hope you will continue on and pursue medicine. There are countless colleagues cheering you on and your future success. /end
