So if you are horrified by the new "free speech/pro-right wing" on campus issue then please be aware a *major* driving force is transphobic campaign groups (hence use of Rowling photo to illustrate). If you were 'neutral'/both sides-ing on this issue then... This is the outcome.

Radical right groups saw transphobia as the "acceptable face" - a wedge to open the door for racist, homophobic, anti science evangelicals, etc. Transphobes eagerly took their money & support & tactics without apparently caring about the baggage that came with it.

The apparent acceptability of anti-trans bigotry on the left & by self-described 'liberals' meant that this culture war was able to place its propaganda in Guardian editorials as often as in Telegraph think pieces.
