Look, I don’t want to keep going on about it, but I really think today illustrates why Labor’s case line into the next election has to focus on the idea of aiming higher.
The politics of division (they’re against you, we’re for you) doesn’t resonate with people on the fence and it doesn’t work with big moral issues like we faced today. Everyone was against Morrison today. Labor needs to speak on behalf of that. Everyone. Not run a us/them line.
Labor should talk on behalf of the 99% of people who deplore rape. And the 85% of people who want more action on climate change. And the 77% of people who believe in giving fossil fuel workers a chance at having a decent job in 10 year’s time.
It’s not a 51/49 election. Everyone knows the only way Labor has any chance is to promise a much better future than the Morrison is promising with his “let’s ignore everything until it makes the headlines” approach. They should do it. *Labor* should aim higher.
