1. So the more infectious South African and Brazilian mutations have been detected in India albeit in very small numbers. Also, 187 UK mutant strain cases so far - all of which begs the question - why aren't we vaccinating more, much more, by directly involving the pvt sector.
2. The Health Ministry press conference is, as usual, an impressive compilation of top-end numbers - total number of health care workers vaccinated so far, percentages per state. All this is great ... but some basic questions remain:
3. The numbers of healthcare workers returning for their second dose remains low. This is clear negligence unless they return within 6 weeks of having taken their first dose which would ensure the vaccine still works. But why delay at all ? That too, healthcare workers?
4. The government keeps repeating, as they did today, that Bharat Biotech's vaccine works well against the mutant variants. Great. But its now been weeks since people started asking about the efficacy of Covaxin. No clarity on when that number will finally be out.
5. Finally - Rising Covid numbers in Maharashtra are a cause of huge worry. Lets all accept that Covid hasn't gone. With zero mask discipline back in vogue across cities, various govts need to get serious about enforcing discipline. Opening up cinema halls is not the answer.
