Yesterday, on Canada's initiative, 58 states & EU endorsed Declaration Against #ArbitraryDetention in State-To-State Relations. Declaration is largely seen as reaction 2 #China's use of arbitrary detentions in politics, e.g. of Canadian nationals #MichaelKovrig and #MichaelSpavor
In Europe, 36 countries (incl. micronations) endorsed the declaration. Notable absentees include Hungary, non-EU countries of Western Balkans, Belarus, Moldova, Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
In Western Balkans, the only non-EU country which endorsed the declaration was Albania.
Among the micronations, Vatican's absence is also worthy of note; under @Pontifex Francis, the Holy See has been striving to improve relations with China.
Globally, the declaration has been endorsed mostly by Western countries, with a few exceptions from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.
