ESR for some is such a hard player to analyse because of how few touches he takes. But his movement off the ball is based off the same thing Ozil used to do. Going to the flanks to create overloads/filling in positions others vacate, always making opposite/complimentary runs
These sort of tangibles are harder to track statistically but it’s really not a surprise that everything good we’ve done since Boxing Day has his name tattooed all over most of it, whether it’s direct or indirect.
2 goals and 6 assists is a very good return. He does all the basics well. Next step for him will be to continue improving on the end product and maybe become more of a direct threat himself through dribbling and shooting (which he can do)
Also by doing a lot of things off one touch he doesn’t give the opposition a chance to settle. That in turn also gives more time for his teammates to pick better passes. See Auba’s first goal against Leeds as an example
