Last weekend I led a former Jehovah Witness to Christ & prayed for her to receive the baptism of the Spirit. But she didn't speak in tongues.
Why? It's not because the Holy Spirit didn't come, He did the moment she believed & confessed Jesus.
Her ignorance was her limitation...

Now I spend my follow up time teaching her spiritual realities according to scriptures.
Just like her, I've prayed for many to receive the gift of the Spirit. Some do instantly, & some do way much later. Even some don't.
For the latter do I pray again? No, I don't.

I KNOW they received, because faithful is He that promised. Acts 2v38-39
So I don't pray again. I teach them God's Word. I tell them to go meditate 1 Corinthians 14. I call it "the speaking in tongues dictionary".
And that as they meditate, the urge will come & they'll speak.

Something about this speaking in tongues thing is that YOU DO THE SPEAKING, He gives the utterance. I wish I can state this enough.
God won't hold your tongue & make you speak. Only demons do that to people, not God's Spirit.

Read your Bible & see how God operates. He works with us.
He told Moses, stretch your rod & part the sea. It wasn't in Moses' place to ask "what if I stretch the rod & nothing happens?

It's your place to open wide your mouth, it's God's place to fill it!
And THEY BEGAN TO SPEAK as the Spirit gave utterance (Acts 2v4). You do the speaking, He gives the utterance!

I've heard testimonies of people who received theirs. Some in a dream, they woke up & started speaking in tongues.
I know of one who received hers while reading her Bible. The urge came & she started speaking.
I know of another who received while I was still speaking to them.

In all cases, these people had a desire for it.
I've prayed for a lady who argued vehemently against it. After teaching, I prayed with her. We prayed & worshipped there for over 3hours.
And another, she was rolling on the floor screaming in tongues. She was arguing moments ago!

In all these, it requires a hunger, a teachable spirit (a willingness to unlearn & learn), the right response to God's Word.
God is more willing to fill that we are to receive. He's not holding back!
It's not a reward for good behavior. It's a tool for effectiveness in Christ.

Do you desire the baptism of the Spirit?
Can you trust God today for it?
If you're saved, the Spirit is already in you. He's waiting on you to let Him out. He's in you! All you need is to stir up the gift! Don't be afraid. 2 Tim 1v6-7
