A thread on Ugandan abductions:

Male Musa, Kamata Muhamad, Kiberu Julius and Kagimu Musa went missing from Mukono in December.

On 19/01, a court ordered their release, as acknowledged by the the Minister for Internal Affairs in his statement to parliament on 04/02 . (1/9)
On 21/01, Joseph Musanyufu, Joint Chief of Staff in the UPDF, wrote to the Solicitor General and said that the four men "are not in UPDF custody". (2/9)
On 04/02, Jeje Odongo, the Minister for Internal Affairs, told a plenary session of parliament that the men were "yet to be traced". (3/9)
However, on 13/02 Yoweri Museveni, the president, said that Male Musa and Julius Kiberu were among 17 people arrested in Mukono by commandos. (4/9)
Another case: Daudi Niwabiine, a university student, was abducted in November.

On 31/12, a high court judge ordered for his release from unlawful detention, naming the attorney general, the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defence Forces as respondents. (5/9)
The order was apparently ignored.

Then, on 04/02, the Minister of Internal Affairs said that "investigations are still ongoing to determine the whereabouts of Nuwabiine Daudi." (6/9)
However on 13/02 the president said that Nuwabiine was among a group of 59 people arrested by commandos in Kampala. (7/9)
If we take Museveni at his word, then two possibilities remain:

1) UPDF leaders ignored court orders, lied to the solicitor-general, and hid the truth from the minister of internal affairs.

2) UPDF leaders themselves did not know what the "commandos" were doing. (8/9)
Or perhaps I have misunderstood something about this whole process - in which I case I would be very happy to be corrected. (9/9)
