Some thoughts on the discussion on generating client via blogging. I agree that this is a very good platform and it is still largely untapped in Malaysia. Will not list down the benefits since they are quite obvious. However, I personally think its not for everybody.. /1
Some of us cannot write as well no matter how hard we try. Some of us find it hard to find time to write consistently (i personally think that no point writing one or two articles - it must be consistent to have the desirable effect). /2
All of us are different and have our own strengths. So rather than focusing on something you dislike or cannot commit, and then being unable to do it well - it may be better to focus on your strength in client generation /3
You may not be good in writing articles, but you may enjoy giving talks, networking with people, etc etc. Focus on those, and do it really well. Find your own niche and perfect it. Always remember, if everyone does the same thing, then you will never stand out.. /4
IMHO, perfecting one art in client generating is better than emulating others and ending up being mediocre in everything. Examine your practice model and identify how you have consistently secure clients.. /5
Then work on it and perfect it. I used to want to do gazillion of things as part of BD and will get frustrated because I cant find the time to do everything and do them well. And its demotivating. So i stopped trying to emulate others.. /6
and focused on just the BDs which I enjoy doing, which had worked for me the past 8-9 years after setting up the firm. So my point is, find your own niche in developing a workable BD and perfect it. Do not emulate for the sake of emulating.
