I've seen a few comments like this and I'm fairly certain I've addressed this at least once or twice already but this comment in particular is a very good example of fundamentally making an argument from the wrong direction. A mini thread:
The foremost issue is you can't argue that the story justifies how it portrays women entirely within the logic the story presents. It's like saying "This woman dresses skimpily in a war setting because she breathes through her skin" entirely excuses scantily clad women in media.
The issue is someone wrote those rules, and those rules created the situation that could be called sexist, whether it be "A woman dressing skimpily because she breathes through her skin", or "Holly can't control her stand because she's not a fighter and has zero fighting spirit"
I should also note that sexism CAN be manifested completely out of ignorance, I'm confident Holly was written that way not because "Araki hates women" but more "Women being a damsel in distress is a common trope that especially wasn't challenged too much in the 1980s mainstream"
I'm not even calling it much a jab at the story itself, I entirely look past the "Holly being too weak to be a stand user" plot point when watching JoJo Part 3 because so long as you look at it through the lens of "This was written in the 1980s" it's easy to look past
Essentially I see this less as a problematic moment written by a problematic writer and more of a "
in hindsight" moment... Perhaps not on the "Woman breathes through her skin" thing though, that was real and IIRC a lot more recent than "40 years ago"

A perfect example of a "
in hindsight" moment is this deleted Back to the Future scene, one I just found out about not that long ago while writing my Back to the Future video. Take a look and see if you notice it yourself:

Of course, the mainstream culture of the time used "Gay" as a homophobic derogatory remark... In 2021 hindsight we can agree that is a very very not good thing to say, but it would be unfair to say the people who wrote that line were expressly bigoted hateful people.
Anywayyys that's about it I think. It's always very difficult discussing these sorts of topics because there's very frequently a lot of nuance involved. I hope that all made sense though!
