Today is the Fašnik!

The day when kids dress up in costumes, money is given to them, and the winter is chased away!
Also a lot of krafni/krofli are eaten.
The idea is to do 3 things:
1) Protect the kids from evil winter spirits by hiding them (making them dress up as EVIL WINTER SPIRITS!)
2) Driving away said evil winter spirits with bells!
3) Paying evil winter spirits to leave to not take the kids!
4) Rouse the spring spirits!
The kids chant:
Debela repa, dugi klin, dajte nama nekaj sim, ak nam nete dali, decu bumo vam fkrali!

Which translates into:
Thick raddish, long nail, give us something. If you don't, we'll steal your kids.

It's customary to give kids coins (1,2. or 5 KN)
Oh I remember as a kid, you could come home with like up to 250hrk!
Now the adults? There's some serious tradition about crossdressing for fašnik. It's REALLY common for girls to dress as guys and guys as girls.

OR they just Zvončari outfits!
