can't stop thinking about the texas shit and my mind going back to nafta cuz like. i've seen people going "why do people vote republican and not democrat?!" and ignoring vote suppression and dems also being corrupt

one trend i've commented on constantly is that when dems want to win over conservatives, it's always over cultural issues. they throw minorities under the bus in a hurry. never works out for them.

and they never go "NAFTA fucked you and fucked everyone all for the rich"

the dems never issue a mea culpa for NAFTA, or for retreating entirely from the states that got fucked by it. the idea that they have ever made a mistake is verboten, especially when it comes to this.

you leave a vacuum, something's gonna fill it.

the dems, they're willing to cave on abortion, they're willing to cave on gay rights, they're willing to cave on welfare, on equal rights in general, on so much.

but they'll never go "we fucked over workers in the 90s and it was wrong". that's the real 3rd rail.

notably, they'll cave on immigration too, and run right along with narratives blaming immigrants for taking jobs - but they'll never actually give people jobs either, and certainly not jobs with decent pay, benefits, protections. only willing to hurt, not help.

there's all sorts of reasons people don't vote for democrats, but when it comes to winning over conservatives, the best they've got is "i'm a watered down bigot, not the real sugar version". they refuse to offer anything else - to anyone. everyone gets the same garbage.
