Today is Abel Tesfaye’s birthday today. Aka The Weeknd. The Weeknd is one of my favorite artists of all time. He holds a voice so pristine and Gorgeous. And I can’t tell you how much I love him in all the ways. (A Thread)
What makes him so great and fantastic today is his discography that he holds. From His early Mixtapes: HOB, EOS, and Thursday and eventually Trilogy came along. Through his Banger filled Starboy. To his past relationships on MDM. To what we have as his latest album After Hours.
Next, was his Features. Working with Kanye, Kendrick, Future, Drake, and Even Travis Scott. And not only his features but the features he could get as well. Idk any artists that could get Kendrick, Daft Punk, Future, And Lana Del Ray on the same album.
We then have the records he broke. Having the hugest album of 2020, Working with Ariana Grande and Juice Wrld IN THE SAME YEAR. Which btw were also huge albums of 2020. And Blinding Lights still being in the Top 10 Charts to this day. And he’s still breaking new records.
Meanwhile, all of that happened for him in 2020 just so he could be snubbed at the Grammys. Look I hate bringing up negativity on Someone’s birthday but that snub was... Whether you don’t like him or not you can’t deny that he should’ve at least gotten nominated.
It’s incredible to me how The Weeknd is so influential rn. I love his style and his voice and they way he takes every album is a different Abel and that’s why I love him. R&B is nothing without him. Did he invent it ? No obviously. But is he a huge influence to this day? Yes.
And Lastly, is His Super Bowl Performance. His performance alone was one of the greatest performances of all time. Not only was it great to just see it live. But it’s crazy to think how he went from A homeless Man to performing His successful Hits in front of Millions of people.
And yes the performance also gave us memes as well so there’s that too :)
The Weeknd would also Start his Label XO. Which later on, signed NAV, Belly and Black Atllas. And they started making songs together which is cool to see along the way.
In Conclusion, Abel is talented, influential, fantastic, gorgeous, and A beautiful Artist. I truly hope people find the meaning in him through his music. The Weeknd is One of the greatest artists of all time.
