/ I don't know much about how military top-brass think that led to this coup.
But I know for a fact that the whole military structure was built upon separating their lives from the civilians apart from power sharing, doing business (MEHL, MEC etc) and asking for budget.
But I know for a fact that the whole military structure was built upon separating their lives from the civilians apart from power sharing, doing business (MEHL, MEC etc) and asking for budget.
/ They only live in their own military compound and not allowed to associate much with the civilians. When I was young, my family couldn't afford a motorbike. So with the help of a family's friend in military, I have to take military trucks that send their kids to the school.
/The kids at my age don't talk and ask much about me and life outside their military compound. They will come to school with their military trucks, study and go back with the same truck at the end of the day. They are not allowed to go out with friends even during or after school.
/ Teachers are reluctant to punish these kids especially when their fathers have some higher ranks. So, most of the time, they go unpunished and think everything they did was right. And most of them will follow their fathers' footsteps and went on to become military officers.
/This untouchable mindset was made even stronger in DSA. It's a wellknown fact that seniors have the right to abuse juniors like in prisons. The juniors will be physically abused until they give up and listen to them. Some even died during the process. https://www.irrawaddy.com/news/military-cadet-killed-during-punishment-by-senior.html
/ The cadets will always go unpunished unless the victims have links to higher ranks. Still, the punishment is nth more than a warning. They have their own judicial system which civilians don't have access to. The DSA trained their soldiers with cronicles and twisted history.
/ The main goal of the DSA was to ingrain a mindset that the military is the only savior of the country and no one else. Which is also why i have to cut-off my close friendship with some of them who became officers. Most of them no longer able to think like normal civilians.
/About DSA, it's not as "elite" as you would think. You don't need high grades to get enrolled into school. You only need to get the lowest possible marks to pass and with some backgrounds, you can get in. Which is why even those from DSTA and DSMA looked down on DSA trained.
/ But the top brass is smart. They only let the DSA-trained to rule no matter how smart you are. Even if you are an engineer or a doctor, you will still get ruled by those graduated from 3-year prison brain-washing camp, called DSA.
/ That's why we can see a very high turnover rates in many military engineers and military doctors because they can't stand the brutality and stupidity of #DSA trained bosses. They quit even at the expense of prison sentence for 5 years.
/ Dr Nay Soe Maung, son in law of Than Shwe wrote recently that how he had to fight hard for #DSMA, to be different from #DSA. One of my relatives, an engineer colonel was also forcibly retired becuz he couldn't get along with #DSA generals.

/ even within the DSA, there are many rats around whose only job is to protect the power of the top generals. They get promoted not for fighting, but for sabotaging their very friends for their own good. That's how ppl like TS and MAH made it through.
Final/ So, the moral of the story is you will never be able to talk sense to these dictators whose mindset is already so twisted and different from how normal people think. They won't even flinch. That's why the old ways of sanctioning will not work, never. We need action.
