Since a lot of you are actively hating this tweet, here's me doubling down on why this is def going to happen & why you should embrace it.

1) Around 2014, MLS spent BIG to bring back Dempsey (30), Bradley (27) and Jozy (26).

2) Jozy's Sunderland situation was bad, but Bradley https://twitter.com/tutulismyname/status/1361435468315910147
was fighting for a spot on a very good Roma team that would end up 2nd in Serie A & in UCL. Dempsey left Tottenham after doing ok for a team that would end up 6th.

3) The returning players got LIFE-CHANGING money. Bradley, I think was making $600k in Roma. The TFC contract
was worth $32 MILLION for 5 years. He would've had to play at Roma for 50 years to make that money. Soccer players are people, not many of us refuse 10x raises.

4) This without a doubt raised the profile of MLS in terms of ambition and investment. You think Seattle is fully
Seattle without the Dempsey signing? You think Toronto, a club that snatched the best player in the Belgian league against their will, is Toronto without Bradley and Jozy signings?

5) Most of y'all are still salty because you see this resulting in the decline in USMNT. It wasn't
We were just fine in 2014-16. The reason why it fell apart was a missing generation of players that didn't rise to fill the gap. So yeah we're depending on all three of those guys 4 years after.

6) Which brings me to this. Do you really think we have that same issue now for
USMNT? Do you think that by 2025, there aren't a whole bunch more kids who aren't heading into Europe and UCL that aren't the big 5 today? If we don't, it doesn't matter what MLS is trying to do to sign players, we're not in a good spot regardless

7) For all of you that want
to show ambition from the USMNT players (and we should), why wouldn't you want your country's league to do the same? 2014 was a huge step up for the league not just in signing players but also academy investment that we're seeing now. With 2026, where the World Cup is here,
(which btw, the last time that happened actually birthed the league), and you don't want them to try to sign the best players in the world to make this league better? MLS would be crazy not to try to do it. They should be going after Neymar, Messi and everyone.
8) If a player in the Big 5 is the star player in a UCL contending team (if UCL still exists), then they're probably making too much money to move in their prime. Also 20 yr olds trying to make their name should be going to the best current teams Everyone else? Fair game.
9) At the end of the day, if MLS can reach their vision to be a top 5 or even top 7 league, that is literally the best way to ensure USMNT stays a superpower in the world game. It's in your best interest as a fan to root for it.
